This post will be to inform the public, all of you, of the changes and some information regarding the next lore which is called... The Ashwood Cove lore. Why is it called that? Thats the town name. Simple right? General Themes for this lore Generally speaking, our choices have certain motivations this lore. These are the determining factors that have so far guided our choices Resident evil style story Main story with additional in depth side lore and world Side quests will be a thing. Random lore areas with additional information regarding the world will be a thing Random notes describing maybe a dried blood hand print. Maybe describing some location that just might come into play later in the lore. Maybe you run across a post-it note that has some strange combo that you dont know what it goes to. Maybe you happen to find some strange key in an abandoned or burned down house or during an event. It may or may not do something... yet Player Choices matter Failure is an option Choices and actions or lack of actions will have lasting effects. We have found ways to effectively turn power and utilities back on and can easily set the ultilities shut off value very low to effectively shut off the power (upon a server restart), so maybe not instant... but pretty close. Think the local government does not represent you? Maybe do something about it. But if you do, what will the results be? Maybe some unforeseen circumstance One idea that may or may not happen... Maybe there is something wrong with the power grid or water supply. Does the town have an electrician? If not, I hope you have someone with some form of electrical knowledge in their bio and get lucky. Do you have a plumber in town? Might be something to think about. Point being... might be best to try and create some form of variety in the types of characters that are in the town. Having a character with trade skills may actually come in handy this lore and effect the world The lore will be ever evolving this time around. Just because we create a plan at the start does not mean the end result will be anything like what we planned. "Immortal" Characters The characters that survive insane encounters without any real lasting physical effects Like having an arm removed and the next day hacking down zombies Or being blown up and then being more or less fine in a day or so. Or being shot and fighting hordes of zombies right away Basically, we will be doing what we can to prevent this. Transparency Our goal is to be transparent in the results of our decisions This does not mean outlining our entire debate process or decision making process about a topic, just the result or a basic explanation as to why Just because we are being transparent does not mean we are going to change something just because someone doesn't like it Location: Ashwood Cove, Maine Location Description: The basic area is a medium to smaller sized coastal town. There are towns near by as well but they would really need to be driven to. It would not be an easy hike between them. The main idea of the town would be commercial fishing and manufacturing. Much of the town has a more "small town, blue collar" feel to it. Many people work for a living using their hands opposed to large corporate jobs. Stores are mostly smaller, family operated stores. Big chains like Walmart are nowhere to be found. At one time, far in the history of this town, it was at one point a very small mining town. The mines were not in the town itself but the town was situated by the water for transport reasons. This gave birth to the metal works that still reside in the town to this day. The main focus of the town is no longer mining as much of the ore seemed to be mined out a long time ago and when that happened, those who remained turned to fishing as a way of life. The town evolved from there. The 90's Cell phones very limited Internet limited. Dial up connections, slow, not as common by any means No smart phones by any means Tools and technology more limited Laptops almost unheard of. VERY rare. The cold war ended in 1991. Trust of Russians is VERY low. Stores: This is a town. There are stores. These have not been "built" yet and can not be looted at first without being sent to prison. They will all be considered to have alarm systems during the initial phase. Stores like... Hardware store, electrical supply store, electronics store and more More info under "Jobs", "Shopping" and "Business owners and employees" Housing There are houses on the map. First come, first serve. If your character dies, you CAN NOT claim that house on another character or just go and "steal" all the items. This will be punished. These houses are YOUR HOUSE... until you die. During the initial phase especially, turning your house into a castle or massive ford would be unreasonable Boarding windows should be fine once things happen Houses do not have "alarms" You have your property. Building onto another persons property is not allowed. Building onto the property line of a non-claimed house is not allowed. Someone lives there, even if no characters do. No claiming a dead characters house unless they have been proven to be dead. So, if you die in the woods, the house will remain vacant unless someone finds that body or enough time has gone by to draw suspicion Hoarding In a time of need, if the people decide to raid your house for those supplies, they will have to follow current theft laws. ie, you must be online. However, will you fight back against a mob? How would the local society deal with a hoarder in their midst as supplies become harder to come by? Map Barrier There is a river that surrounds the playing area. You are NOT allowed to build over it or pass over it in any way. This marks the playing area. Failure to follow this may result in your character being attacked by rabid raccoons and dying cold and alone in the woods. Later on, part of the outer limit of the map may be expanded a little further to include more space or another area for lore purposes.... or just because we feel like the map needs more area and more woods. Map We are not telling you the name of the map we are going to be using... yet. There will be a custom map created and most likely published that is a very basic top down perspective.... mostly showing blocks for buildings and the roads. No name or anything. Mods More mods! To name a few.... http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=948965014&searchtext= http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=961869938&searchtext= (this will assist admins finding your house and such as needed for tickets) http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=971145548&searchtext= http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=740886034&searchtext= Rule Changes Theft During the initial phase, any and all theft will be treated as it is in the real world. This means a police investigation and in the world of technology where there are cameras everywhere, its likely you will be caught. After initial phase, the rules will change to reflect the world as it is. basically being closer to how they are right now Application Blood Types Yes, we are going back to this and the "universal donor" and "universal recipient" blood types are being banned. The blood types will go off of a request basis in the application Universal Donor and Universal Recipients blood types will be limited by the admin team using US based statistics on blood type %'s of the population to the player base to prevent too many Admins may also temporarily "ban" other blood types if they see far too many requesting the exact same type to help spread things out. Starting Items - we may be a bit more strict this go around in what we allow depending on your characters background. This will be handled on a case by case by the admin doing the application Group Applications There will be an actual set of questions asking if this is a group app and also who else is included in it for reference purposes and organization We may possibly create a totally different application for this purpose to keep things separated. Background Info Additional Information will be required for the background. Like... did they grow up in this town, did they move there, did they arrive since the incident and if they did, why? Mines and Blast furnaces These will not be allowed to be built. They may be included in limited quantity on the map itself and can NOT be moved. The blast furnace will of course be in the metal works... naturally. The mine will be an "abandoned" mine. We may require seeing RP for people doing work to it to get it back into somewhat working order..... maybe. Realism will be enforced for certain things such as... The average person can not hunt Basically... most people could not go out to the woods and take down a bear Odds are, most can not go out and find a deer every day and actually shoot it. If you are carrying more than 1 large animal back by hand from a hunting trip, you know this is just wrong. The average person can not keep bees Bee keeping is actually a somewhat complicated task, especially in colder climates. The average person has no idea how to weld If you have never done this to any real degree, good luck doing an actual good weld. Carpentry would be limited a bit Most people can build basic things. Might not look pretty though. Few people would be able to actually build a house, let alone a giant base. Electrical Electrocution is a real thing. If your character tries this... like in an event and they don't have real knowledge of it... there is a good chance they will end up just getting electrocuted or killing someone else. other trade type skills... You must get the point by now. Basically, just because in the game you can do it, does not mean your character can. Zombies Manual Spawn As of now, zombies will not be a primary focus of this lore. They are there and they are part of the lore but IF there are hordes of zombies... it will not be for awhile and they will not just be randomly roaming around. Mix of science and supernatural.... any more would be spoilers. Things are not always how they appear. Jobs The map has a number of places of employment. When it comes time to release the full release of the lore info, we will release a list of all the places someone could work. Each place would have a set number of people that could work there. Admins would track this and go from there. We have created a tracker. We will know what character AND player starts off with what job or owns what business. The list of available places to work will be published for public viewing before character apps are opened People will know what characters have what jobs or own what places The names of the actual players own places will NOT be released. Money There will be a cash money system This will use the HC mod for the money items Each player will start with a certain amount of money Most likely no coins issued for space saving purposes but found coins would still be able to be used naturally, or exchanged if you happen to see an admin online. The bills will most likely be issued in a small denomination. This way we are not having to log in and break larger bills constantly. Shopping Depending on if a place has a worker in it and they decide to actually work, people could have the potential to buy things from existing stores. If something like "martial law" was enforced, it would be the responsibility of employees to secure the stores they work for. This would be a good way to get money and supplies later on down the road if an economy is established. Traveling Traders Depending on the server economy, items available and all that, we may have a traveling trader or more. Most likely would take orders and come back at a later time. Pricing and all that would need to be worked out. Not discussed yet. Trader could buy items that may be useful earning money. The amount of money would be purely up to the discretion of the trader and most likely will vary Gun Shop There will be a gun shop. It will be admin controlled. This is so we can have a larger hand in regulating how many guns and what types are in circulation on the map. The actual person running the gun shop may not be an actual admin character but would be played by an admin. The bulk of the guns will be stored in such a way that people who most likely not be able to steal them. In other words, if you DO steal them, odds are you will be found out, arrested and your character could possibly spend most of their time in prison. They will all be pre-spawned for story purposes, as well as like mentioned above, the person actually running the store will not be an admin account. This building WILL be alarmed. (because its a gun store so it would be, plus we dont need people mecha walking in and just stealing a bunch of guns far easier than it should be) There will be no player employees to prevent any possible theft and hoarding of guns. Generally speaking this is mostly to prevent offline theft since its not like the store room would be checked every day. Business Owners and Employees Yes, you can own a business. Yes you can have employees. Employers will have to pay employees This may not be based on a totally realistic wage. This is a game and the economy is what we say it is for the most part There may be more than 1 owner, but this must be agreed upon and submitted in the character application A comprehensive list is being created. Requests will also be accepted. A form will be posted at the time as the list for different types of businesses. Town Services DPW Water Works Electrical and so forth will be valid jobs. If you own a place and die, you will not own that place on your next character. GUNS! The thing everyone wants to know about. Yes there are guns. Yes you can buy a gun without having a permit or a waiting period or any of that. Vanilla Guns Also..http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=514618604&searchtext=guns You may ask... why modern? Because we can. The reasoning for those who cant accept "just because" as an answer, alternate universe where these guns exist due to some change in the timeline due to the cold war. Automatic weapons will be VERY limited on this map. Given the area, most weapons would be rifles and handguns Character Creation - Changing the lore Until now, there has been a rule... no real people, and no kids under 16. These will mostly stay intact but there will be a little more leniency in regards to creating characters that would effect the worlds story line. For example, during this current lore, someone wanted to create a senator and we deemed that it was too influential and could effect the timeline and all that... This will be handled on a case by case basis this lore and used as a testing ground going forward. If you want to create some politician, you can or something along those lines. Was your guy a celebrated war veteran and has like, 6 books on the best sellers list? Maybe they want to be a world record champion in recreation power walking. Special Map locations There are certain places on the map to facilitate certain needs. Electronics Workbench - Electrical Facility Mine (on the map... it would currently be considered an abandoned mine) Blast Furnace and smelter - Metal works facility Gas Station - If power goes out, which is a possibility to be discussed further down, these MIGHT be able to be powered by a generator. Depends on if the mod works right MUST be dont by a skilled electrician In the theme of your choices matter... if someone who is not an electrician is found to attempt this, the gas station may blow up removing all hope for future power. This may or may not even happen but it was discussed awhile back. Injuries Until now, the injuries and heal times have mostly been set by the doctor treating the wounds, injuries themselves have been a mix between an admin during an event or player. Injuries sustained have not been all that realistic by any means some times. Admins MAY insert "complications" during heal times if its decided a character should have died or been more injured We can not remove skill levels but we can remove and add perks. If your character for example has a permanent leg injury, perks may be changed to significantly slow down a character. Player Run Events We have no additional information as of yet for this but a topic of future discussion is the integration of smaller player run events with admin assistance. Basically, maybe a player has an idea to.... burn down their business and wants admins to help run a mini event for people trying to salvage the stuff inside. Maybe they have an idea for a smaller random survivor event.... there will be some form of way to request this more officially and to get actual admin help. NPCs (the ones that are not visually there) More or less these are being revamped. Gone are the days of NPCs providing guard duties or protection. There may still be NPCs but there will be a request procedure and a bit more detail needed for them. The only ones as of now for this upcoming lore that would be allowed might be... a bartender for when a player is offline or out and about in town... a waiter or waitress in a diner... things like that. More info on this to come. Locked Doors Gone will be the days of a post-it note saying "Locked" and in come the days of mechanical locks. The admins are going to work on getting a larger stash of keys and doorknobs for buildings to be secured with. The hope is to provide exterior locked doors and 2 keys to players. There may be a transitional phase in accomplishing this so there would be an official notice saying when doors should all be mechanically locked or something and until that point, any claimed buildings would be "locked" until then. Claim notices outside doors will remain a thing. "Locked" notes will still be allowed for special circumstances... like doors that can not be mechanically locked for one reason or another. "Safe houses" Feature At this time, we don't know if it will work properly. However, we will be turning this on in the configs on the test server and testing it out. We need to see if this will be feasible to use and go from there. Input on this would be appreciated. Money The lore currency will be Hydrocraft money Each player will get a set amount in their starting items This will be used to purchase things. Just like in real life. Credit cards will not be used because there is no mechanical way to link them to a set set of money or anything. Banks... we might utilize a bank. Or not... we will see. Prices need to be reasonable. If you set insanely high prices during a time frame that is not during some sort of "emergency" time frame, admins may tell you to lower your prices to not break the economy. If the town goes into some sort of Martial Law type scenario or something along those lines, prices can be freely set by the owners. Dont be surprised if you run a store providing needed supplies though if people break into and just loot your store in a group. Creating Characters After Lore Starts Yes, you can of course do this... You CAN make a character even after the lore starts that actually lives in this town Until we run out of assigned houses.... Unless we build more on the fly which is unlikely. After assignable houses have been filled, all new characters will need to be from out of town. Unless you make a family member of another player. Its assumed that there are more people in the actual town than you will see in players. This means that just because you have never seen them in game before and suddenly do, does not mean they have not been living there the entire time. More information will be posted into this post as time goes.
